I took a little recon trip to see if I could make it to the high gold fields yet.
I was kind of surprise that the gate on the main road was open. The roads are owned and maintained by a private logging company. They close the roads off during the winter so idiots don't destroy them in the wet weather. A lot of people think we have the right to use them. The truth is, if the logging company didn't maintain them they would not exist. The government will barely maintain the paved roads, there is no way they would maintain a dirt road, they would just close it. I am very thankful they allow us to use their roads. I would hope everyone that uses them will keep this in mind and not give them a reason to shut the gates!
It looked like there had been very little traffic over the road, they must have just open the gate. I was pleasantly surprised to find the winter damage to the road was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. There were a few washed out spots, but with all the rain, I thought their would be a whole lot more. You had to keep your eyes open, down timber and rocks on the road were everywhere.
All in all it was a very pleasant drive, a whole lot of wildlife and I did not see another vehicle.
I was stopped by the snow about 2 miles from getting over the top. I an not sure what its going to look like on the other side. I am planning to give it about 2 weeks and I then will make another run at it.
I filmed the trip and put the video up on the YouTube channel, here is the link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLFSkuB0n6I
