We left as soon as it got light enough to see , around 6:00 AM. On the trip out the ocean was very smooth, we were able to run 15 to 20 miles per hour all the way out. About 57 miles out the water started to warm up. We began trolling at that point. At 62 miles the water had reach 63°. The only problem we encountered was, it was dead out there. No bait - no birds - no anything.
We trolled in and out of the warm water for about 4 hours - nothing. As we headed in, about 25 miles from shore, we hit an area with all kinds of life, whales, porpoises, birds - but no tuna. It was getting late so we decided to just head on in.
I still have two more weeks of fishing, so I haven't given up hope yet. If the ocean settles down I'm hoping to make at least one more run. I still haven't got my fill of fishing, but I'm beginning to get the bug to do a little prospecting.
