headed to Nevada, to do a little metal detecting. I was heading to an
area a old friend showed me 30 to 35 years ago. This area has a fair
amount of gold, but it's mostly small gold. In all the years I have been
detecting out there, the largest piece I have picked up so far, weighed
less than half a penny weight.
It doesn't take much to get me to the desert this time of year. I love
the desert in the early spring. This time of year the weather's great,
everything's green, the flowers are blooming. There's wildlife
everywhere. You add, finding gold to that mix, and it's pretty hard to
beat!
I headed out fairly early, so I could enjoy the desert in the early
morning. It was around 8 am when I got to the site. It took me a while,
going over my notes to determine where I had stopped last year. But it
wasn't long before I had a area girded out and I was detecting.
It was a little tougher this year, because I decided to make a video
on finding gold nuggets in the desert. At the same time I didn't want to
take the extra time to do the video, because I didn't get out here that
often and wanted to spend as much time as I could looking for
nuggets. But once I got started filming, I begin to enjoy the filming and
started filming everything. The scenery, the flowers, the wildlife, you
name it and I was taking pictures of it.
I did manage to find three pieces of gold. There were all typical size
for the area small. hu I made a killing on the empty 22 casings.
All in all, I had an unbelievably enjoyable day. The weather was
perfect, the scenery was fantastic, and I took home some gold. I don't
know how you could ask for anything more. If you've never done it, I
strongly suggest you go to the desert in the early spring, park your
truck and go for a walk, you'll be amazed at what you see.
