decided my next video will be on basic crevicing skills. It's been quite a longtime since I've been
out crevicing without a metal detector. I didn't take a detector with me, because the video is
going to be on basic crevicing skills. I forgot how hard it was. It's a lot easier to open a crevice
when you know there's something in it. When you use a good detector, it enables you to skip a
crevice that looks good, but has nothing in it. I decided to do this video because most people
start mining this way, the only things you need, are a pan and a few crevice tools.
I had to open up quite a few crevices before I found one with some gold in it. It was actually a
lot of fun going back and trying to remembering all the basics that were taught to me by my
grandfather, and a lot of other good old miners, who are now long gone. When they were
teaching me, there was no such thing as metal detector, it was all reading the river and hard
work. I'm very grateful that I was given the opportunity to learn this way. It makes me realize
how lucky I am to have learned the old way and get to mine in the new way.
It was after lunch before I found the crevice that gold in it. By this time it was getting very
warm. While panning out my last pan I was thinking, it would feel a lot better to be in the creek
than next to it. It was about that time that the gold started showing up in my pan, and all a
sudden it really wasn't all that hot. I was very pleased to go home with 2.3 pennyweights of
gold.
It still got me to thinking about the next video. The weather is getting hotter, and the waters
getting warmer. I haven't finished my video on crevicing yet, but I'm already thinking that my
next video is going to be on sniping. That way I can work in the nice cool water.
